Carbo load day

The day before the marathon. Such excitement in the air and lots of carbohydrates on the dinner table. Scott went for a short jog in the morning with the other runners who came from Australia and Erin, Kinsey, Cheryl, and I went for a walk around town. I cannot believe I was on the banks of the Swan River in Australia last Saturday and on the banks of the Thames in England this Saturday.

The London Eye making a halo around my head. The lines to ride this are way too long so are just enjoying the view from down here.

A sphinx next to Cleopatra's needle along the Thames.

My first glance of Big Ben. Big Ben is actually the name of the bell inside of the tower but it's common to hear the tower, clock, and bell all referred to as Big Ben.

A closer view.

A statue of Abraham Lincoln in Trafalgar Square. I think it was put there in 1920 to commemorate 100 years of peace between England and the US.

Because we are here for the marathon, the Olivers don't have a lot of sightseeing planned so we get cool shots when we can. We passed by Westminster Abbey and posed for a few shots. It's really cool to stand here and think about all of the famous kings and queens of England that have walked past this very spot.

Another picture of Westminster Abbey.

(Shhhh. We quietly stepped into St Margaret's Cathedral next to Westminster Abbey. It was very pretty inside.)

Nando's at lunch for some peri peri chicken and rice. Part of Scott's pre-run carbo loading.

We took a train a long, long way out of London to find the starting line. This picture is for Jack and his family - The Clarendon Hotel.

The day ended with the traditional spaghetti dinner that many runners like to eat. The restaurant was packed with lots of runners all eating pasta.

Location:London, UK
